About us
Kia ora! We are Greater Ōtautahi, a group of locals who've come together to push for a better city.
Our History
Greater Ōtautahi can be traced back to early 2023, when, despite many individuals making progressive commentary on housing, there was a clear lack of progressive voices on the implementation of the Medium Density Residential Standards.
Realising that we needed cooperation in this space, likeminded individuals came together to form a focused organisation to speak informedly and authoritatively on issues of housing, transport, and urban development.
Since 2024, Greater Ōtautahi has gone from strength to strength, filling a missing gap in commentary and advocacy in our city for progressives. It has empowered its members to act on their concerns and provided a united front on local government issues.
Our Values
Greater Ōtautahi is proudly non-partisan and thrives because our members come from diverse social and political backgrounds. Our diversity is a strength in our mission, and allows us to work across the political spectrum. We are proud to have created a space without political walls, where opinions are valued.
